A Question About Giving

At our information meeting the question was brought up whether we would teach tithing or free will offering. Here's our answer:

We believe that it is the joy and sacrificial responsibility of Christians to be generous givers of finances, time, and skills, for the benefit of the church family and the blessing of our local community. The New Testament does not command an amount of money for Christians to give, but rather holds up a mirror for us to examine the attitude of our hearts in regards to giving:

“They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life” - 1 Timothy 6:18-19

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”- 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

We encourage every person to reflect on these passages and give freely, generously, and joyfully, the amount they desire to give.
