Big Questions for Little Children

Is there anything more important than passing on our faith to the next generation?  As Christian parents it is not enough for our faith to only last one generation.  We desire to see our children and our children's children walking with the Lord.  At Redeemed our vision statement says, "We are a community of disciple making disciples who exist to proclaim the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit for the salvation of every man, woman, boy, and girl in the South Bay and to the ends of the earth."  And many of those boys and girls that our statement identifies are our own sons and daughters. To this end we take our children's Bible time seriously.  At "Redeemed Kids" during our Sunday gathering we come along side our parents to aid in the intentional, discipleship of our children.

One of the greatest tools in the training up of children in the faith used by the historic church has been a series of question and answers of a theological nature, called a catechism.

We encourage our parents to use the questions and worksheets provided at Redeemed Kids to enhance family worship time at home.  As you read these questions and answers I think you will see that while they may be simple they are profound as well.  They will aid in deep reflection for those who have been long in the faith as well.  C. S. Lewis once said that we should have a child-like faith just not a childish faith.  Learning along with our children will help all of us, young and old, to mature in the faith.  And isn't that what discipleship is all about?

Here are the first 5 questions:

1.    Q. Who made you? 

      A. God.

2.  Q. What else did God make?

      A. God made all things.

3.  Q. Why did God make you and all things?

      A. For his own glory.

4.  Q. How can you glorify God?

      A. By loving him and doing what he commands.

5.  Q. Why are you to glorify God?

      A. Because he made me and takes care of me.
