A Prayer of David (Psalm 86)

1. Our prayer should reflect our great need. (vv. 1, 7, 14)

2. Our prayer should reflect God’s unchanging character.

   a. He is the only true God and there is none like him. (vv. 8-10)
   b. He is the only true God abounding in steadfast love to all that call upon him. (vv. 5, 15)

3. Our prayer should reflect our complete dependence on him.

   a. We should pray continually. (v. 3)
   b. We should pray thankfully. (v. 12)
   c. We should pray with humility. (vv. 2, 4, 16)
   d. We should pray believing. (vv. 2, 7)

4. Our prayer should reflect God’s purposes.

   a. We should pray for salvation. (vv. 2, 5, 16)

   d. We should pray for God’s glory to be made known. (vv. 9, 12)
