Give Thanks to God for All He Is and Does (Psalm 136)

Main point: In this Psalm, the Psalmist directs us in thankful worship of God by dwelling on who God is and what He has done, so that we might know His love better and, thus, give Him thanks always.

  1. Give thanks to God for who He is (vv. 1-3)

    a. He is Holy (vv. 1a, 2a, 3a)

    b. He is Good (v. 1a)

    c. He is Loving (vv. 1b, 2b...26b)

  2. Give thanks to God for what He does (vv. 4-25)

    a. He does what none other can do (v. 4a)

    b. He created the world (vv. 5a, 6a...9a)

    c. He redeems His people and He judges His enemies (vv. 10a, 11a...22a)

    d. He condescends (vv. 23a, 24a, 25a)

  3. Therefore, give thanks to God! (v. 26)
