The God of Rest (Genesis 2:1-3)

Sermon Notes:

Main idea: In Genesis 2:1-3, we see two proofs that God is the God of rest so that we will seek to enter and enjoy His rest.

  1. He is the God who rests

  2. He is the God who gives rest
    a. To Creation
    b. To Israel through Moses, Joshua, David
    c. To Israel and the Nations through Jesus the Messiah

Addendum: Are Christians required to keep the Sabbath? Three main views:

  1. The Sabbath is Saturday and Christians must keep it.

  2. The Sabbath was Saturday but the concept of Sabbath has been transferred to Sunday, the Lord’s day and Christians must keep it.

  3. The Sabbath is Saturday and Christians may keep it if they want to. And it is appropriate to gather to worship on the Lord’s Day.
