Flood Logic: Two Inescapable Conclusions (Genesis 7)

Sermon Notes:

Main idea: In Genesis 7, we see two inescapable conclusions about God so that by faith in him, we will be righteous and fearless heralds of the gospel in an evil generation.

  1. God knows how to rescue the righteous

    a. God sees (7:1b, 5, Heb 11:7)

    b. God speaks (7:1-4)

    c. God sends (7:6-12)

    d. God saves (7:13-17, 23, 1 Pet. 3:20, 2 Pet 2:5)

    e. Application #1: Faith and righteousness are rewarded

    i. To the Non-believer – believe and be saved! Enter the ark!

ii. To the Believer – be assured your salvation! Be a fearless herald!

  2. God knows how to repay the wicked

    a. God sees (7:1b)

    b. God speaks (7:1a, 2 Pet. 2:5)

    c. God sends (7:17-23, 2 Pet 2:5, 9)

    i. How long? (v.17, 24, 8:3)

    ii. How deep? (v. 17, 18, 19)

    iii. How wide? (v. 19)

    iv. How deadly? (v.21-23)

    d. Application #1: Justice is satisfied – a relief for the righteous

    e. Application #2: Sinners are judged – a warning to the wicked
